The Lightning have until 3pm Wednesday to submit their opening day rosters to the NHL, and more importantly get their 23 man roster under the salary cap. They made some moves by reducing their roster by four but also picking up a player off of the waiver wire.

The Lightning picked up 23 year old Mattias Ritola from waivers from the Red Wings. Nightmare on Helm Street calls Ritola a so-so player. But Yzerman must have seen something in him to pick him up. And there's always a possibility with Wings players that he could turn out to be a superstar by the way they pick 'em. Check out Cristodero's blog for some info on Ritola.

The Lightning put Mathieu Roy on waivers and released Eric Perrin from his tryout contract. The Lightning opted to go with youth from their picup of Tirola and so 34 year old Perrin is expected to go to Finland to play this season because he says that he has the most fun there.

The Lightning also assigned Chris Durno, Johan Harju and Cedric Desjardins to Norfolk.

As of right now the team has 23 players but may be able to put Ohlund on the IR. Tomorrow will be interesting to see if the Lightning move to pick up any of the last minute players going through waivers tomorrow as teams dump players and their salary to get under the cap.
