How do you think this will impact the team over the next few weeks?

If you didn't catch the game, or have been blind to any press about the Lightning, Lecavalier has fractured his knuckle in his right hand and will be out three to four weeks.

Like we can all admit, he's been playing better than last year but obviously not like Vinny-could-be-great better right? Like in 15 games played he has had three goals, nine assists and is a minus three. Even so, he has been getting a ton of minutes under Boucher, so how's the team going to fare without him? Who's gonna take the faceoffs in his spot? How's that locker room going to react to their captain being out? Who is going to step up?

And WHO is going to get called up?

Questions.

So the loss? It was like the Alex Semin show/Dan Ellis looking over his shoulder as the puck flies by him tonight. Obvious statement on Semin since he got a hat trick and all, I know, but he was on fire tonight. I ended up missing the first period and a bit of the second due to the early than Lightning usual start and working late tonight, but from what I saw in the third period, there was some unreal action.

Teddy Purcell opened up the scoring in the first by scoring the only goal of the period. But early in the second, Tom Poti who came back from injury tied up the game, then Mike Knuble put the Caps up 2-1. Now the third period is where we had 6 goals occur. Two powerplay goals to start, one by Ryan Malone for the Lightning and the other by Alex Semin. Then it was like we had a double Alex scoring sandwich with some Stamkos in between: Semin scores another goal midway through the third, Stamkos nets his 14th of the season two minutes later, followed by Ovechkin, then an empty net goal by Semin.

The Lightning had 41 shots on goal while the Caps had 26. Ellis looked unprepared (or maybe just really flustered in the thirds?) and was obviously not the better goaltender. Washington has now won it's sixth straight game. The next time these two teams will meet will be right after Christmas on December 26th with another game at the Verizon Center.

The Lightning now head to Pittsburgh to take on the Pens tomorrow night.
